Amanda the Adventurer is a horror adventure game developed by Dread XP. In the game, players take on the role of Riley Park, a lamb who inherits Aunt Kate’s house. Exploring the house, Riley discovers a stack of old VHS tapes accompanied by a TV in the attic. The VHS tapes appeared to contain episodes of children’s cartoons from the early 2000s that Riley had never seen.

While not a high-budget production, these tapes chronicle the adventures of little girl Amanda and her shy friend, Wooly the Sheep. Although initially appealing, a feeling of insecurity gradually sets in when Riley realizes that Amanda and Wooly can communicate directly through the TV. Even though she wanted to stop, Riley couldn’t help but continue watching because she felt that Amanda needed help from her.

Features of the game include:

  • A short but challenging single player horror experience.
  • The story is told through animated tapes, which have the appearance of a cute cartoon but contain disturbing content.
  • The CGI visuals are 90s-style, a reminder of a simpler era of animation.
  • Characters interact directly with the viewer, giving the feeling of a dream – or maybe a nightmare?
Room escape-style puzzles, with clues hidden in the ice.
  • “Amanda the Explorer” can be experienced at home or on the go with new controls for Nintendo Switch™.

The question is, what’s really hidden behind the game’s friendly and colorful exterior? Who left these tapes and is their value worth the mysteries Riley is trying to solve?
